Corporate Services Extraordinaire

I haven’t posted in awhile due to the mechanics of actually retiring. Yes, I’m officially not employed!

Unfortunately, I am no clearer on my next endeavor. I’ve been giving it a lot of thought though.I started thinking about what would have helped me when I was working. What would have made me more productive? Less stressed? Just all around happier?

It came to me in a flash: a cabana boy! Of course!  How often did I and my colleagues complain about all the grapes we had to peel for ourselves? If only we had had someone on call for these tedious but essential tasks.

Really, had my company provided a cabana boy*, I might still be employed. In fact, that should be a service offered to corporations! You know how sometimes companies will hire a group to come in and give chair massages for an afternoon, or get some concierge service to wash your car or do your dry cleaning (does anyone do dry cleaning any more?). I could start such a service!

It might seem that this is not the ideal time to put a cabana boy service on the market, what with everyone used to working remotely and so many corporate office complexes sitting essentially empty. I disagree. What better incentive to come back to the office?! The market is ripe!

As part of setting up my Corporate Cabana Corps (I’ll work on the name), I will of course need to recruit and train cabana boys. Not to brag, but I doubt there is anyone who would be better at this than I. I can give essential guidance such as “please fan me more languidly” and “this mai tai could use a splash more run.”

I’ve got to get a post on LinkedIn right away.

* Let me clarify something that many folks find confusing. A cabana boy is not a pool boy. They are totally different. A pool boy is someone who struts around without a shirt, who may or may not clean your pool, but essentially is just on hand for other types of recreation IYKWIM,AITYD**. A cabana boy is a key support individual with specific duties that do not require your mind to be in the gutter***, so get it out of there asap!

** If you know what I mean, and I think you do.

*** Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
